- Mute since the age of 12 after a fire burned down the building she and her mother lived in. Shock from the incidence combined with vocal cord damage made her mute. The high stress of the her world has prevented her from really being able to speak again.
- Knows morse code, some ASL, though she and Shane devised their own version of sign language out of necessity due to the lack of people who had the knowledge of ASL
